Fred Kogler
Fredrick O. Kogler, 66, Herington, died Feb. 26, 2002, at the Minneapolis Good Samaritan Center, Minneapolis.
He was born Jan. 10, 1936, at Chicago Heights, Ill., the son of Carl H. and Myrtle E. (Green) Kogler.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Donahue Funeral Home Chapel, Herington. Pastor Lorenzo Jackson officiated. Full military honors were given by a special funeral detail from Fort Riley.
SSG Kogler retired from the U.S. Army's Military Police in 1976, after 20 years of service. He was a life member of the Salina Post #1432, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He served in Vietnam and Korea. While in Vietnam he received the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, and the Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.
He married Wilma J. Taylor May 5, 1988, at Abilene. She survives at Herington. He also is survived by four sons, Tim Null of Kilgore, Texas, Walter Null of Killeen, Texas, Bill Emerson of Pawtucket, R.I., and Terry Malek of Waverly, Neb.; daughter Julie Richmond of Tampa; two brothers, Bruce Kogler of Bryon Center, Mich., and Ken Kogler of Kentwood, Mich.; and 14 grandchildren.
Memorials have been requested to the Tri-County area Vietnam Memorial Fund with the American Legion Post #12.
