Free coffee at Tampa will honor veterans

There will be free coffee at the café Monday morning to honor the community's veterans. The event is sponsored by Cardie Oil Company and the Tampa Community Association. The next meeting of the association will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, at the senior center. At that meeting plans will be made for the contest for outdoor Christmas decorations and for cooperation with the Lions Club to sponsor Santa's visit to Tampa.

Many from Tampa attended the funeral Tuesday of Linel Frick at the Durham Baptist church. Frick had been a lifelong resident of this area until moving into Marion Manor several years ago. He will be missed.

Leona Kleiber spent from Thursday to Monday with Dean and Becky Routh, Allison, Melody, and Danielle at Augusta. Becky and Leona enjoyed lunch out Friday in Wichita. The Rouths and Leona attended the Hallelujah Fun Night at the church in Andover Friday evening. On Saturday evening all attended the 4-H achievement banquet in El Dorado. Allison received six project awards and Melody and Danielle each earned five. On Sunday afternoon all visited the care home in Andover where the three girls played their instruments and sang together as well as performing some solos and joining in group singing with the residents. Afterward, ice cream was served to the residents and visitors.

Jane Vajnar was a guest Monday of Evelyn Hensley and Rita Quinn of Winfield for dinner.

Adeline Bernhardt spent from Thursday to Monday with Carl and Kathy Hubbard and Clint of Wellington. All attended the district playoff football game Thursday evening between Wellington and Chaparral high schools. Clint played on the winning Wellington team, which was scheduled to play Haven Tuesday evening. After church on Sunday Carl, Kathy, and Adeline went to the movie "Radio" in Derby.

A number of Tampa people attended the community sacred music concert Sunday evening at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. A performance by Haskell and JoLee Cooney was followed by music by a mass choir and special numbers from area churches. The offering went to defray the Cooney's expenses and to support Main Street Ministries.

Jane Vajnar visited Elizabeth Helmer Sunday afternoon in Hillsboro.

Deb Hall and Kaylee of Herington and Tom and Dee Duggan attended a soup dinner Sunday evening in Herington sponsored by the Catholic Youth Organization.

Martha Melcher and Eleanor Murphy visited Helen Schwartzman Sunday evening.

Jim and Diane Herron, Andrew and Peter of Wichita spent Sunday and Monday with Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie.

Greg Sklenar and his friend Dan of Wichita and Tony Young of Goessel were Saturday visitors of Lois Sklenar and Valerie Hampton.

Jim and Mary Clemmer were Sunday afternoon visitors of Helen Schwartzman.

Claudette Spohn, Adam and Lauren of Manhattan visited Saturday with Gary and Carole Spohn and Georgia Spohn.

A number of Tampa people attended the silver wedding celebration for Larry and Yvonne Cushenbery Sunday afternoon at the community center in Durham.

Prairie Pals met Monday in the basement of Saint John's Lutheran Church with Laveta Meyer and Jeanne Rziha as hostesses. Dorothy Lehman presented a program on the history of baby bottles. The group completed plans for the hunter's soup luncheon and flea market to be held at the senior center on Saturday. Anyone wanting a table for their craft or flea market wares should call Monica Leihy at 785-965-2606 or Michele Berens at 785-965-2296. The market will open at 9 a.m. with dinner served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members and guests present included Virginia Bentz, Michele Berens, Janet Bielefeld, Mary Clemmer, Shirley Kraus, Monica Leihy, Laveta Meyer, Lori Meyer, Jeanne Rziha, Monica Svoboda, and Jane Vajnar.

A number of Tampa people attended morning worship Sunday at the Durham Baptist church where they heard music by Spirit 'N' Celebration, a choral group from Hillsboro High School. A potluck dinner followed the service.

Pat Schwartzman of Salina was a Friday overnight and Saturday guest of Helen Schwartzman.

Jerry and Jeanne Rziha and Julie went to Wichita Saturday to attend the funeral of Kiyo Herron.

Reuben and Lucille Kerbs attended the 4-A state volleyball tournament Saturday evening at the Bicentennial Center in Salina. Their granddaughter Allison Phillips played for the Abilene Cowgirls, who took third place. Also cheering her on were Connie Thompson of Abilene, Tim and Marchelle Kerbs and Molly of Salina, Reuben Kerbs II of Dodge City and Crisy Cammack of Manhattan. After the game Reuben and Lucille went to the home of Tim, Marchelle, and Molly. April Kerbs of Emporia joined them for cake and ice cream in celebration of Molly's birthday, which was Friday.

A number of Tampa people attended Kansas Fellowship Saturday at the Baptist church in Durham. Several of the women helped serve snacks and meals.

Georgia Spohn and Jane Vajnar were among those attending "Learning in Retirement" at Tabor College in Hillsboro Thursday morning. The program was brought by the Funtastics, a chorus of senior citizens from Wichita. After the program, Jane enjoyed lunch in the college cafeteria. Georgia went out for lunch with Lenora Graham and Kathleen Ludwig of Florence and Ellen Darrow and Joyce Hett of Marion.

Lois Sklenar took Valerie Hampton out for dinner Tuesday in celebration of her birthday.
