From the Sidelines: Like it or not, summer is here

Sports reporter

It doesn't matter that summer is technically a week away. To most people it's already in full swing.

From baseball and softball games, to swim practice, rodeo, or whatever it is the kids do, summer can be one of the most stressful times of the year.

But really it shouldn't.

It kind of reminds me of Christmas. You know the time that is supposed to be about spending time with your family, and giving not receiving, but turns into fighting over the last toy at the mall, or arguing with that one family member you can't stand.

Well summer is similar. It's supposed to be the time of the year we all enjoy no school, warm weather, and fun.

Yet sometimes being at the ball park five nights a week can conjure up some different adjectives.

Having the kids at home all the time might fall under a different category as well.

A psychiatrist I am not, but my advice would be to just sit back and enjoy every minute of this time of the year. It can be stressful, but before you know it, these times will be gone. My son, Mitch is having his first summer, and I'm already thinking time is flying by.

It's just that summer (at least in Kansas) provides those days where you just feel good. The sun is out, the sky is blue, and you just feel great about living.

Having kids and running around with them should be more incentive to love this time.

So instead of dreading this hectic time, take a second to breathe, relax, and enjoy what the summer has to offer.

Just think, it could be cold and then the kids would be inside all day.
