Fund-raiser nets $1,300 years ago
More than $1,300 was raised Saturday during the third annual Marion Fire Department fund-raiser.
During the morning, volunteer firefighters pumped fuel at Ampride for donations and wives of the firefighters had a bake sale.
Ampride provided hot dogs and beverages with donations for the meal going to the fire department.
Marion Chamber of Commerce held a downtown promotion where shoppers received a water bottle with coupons from local merchants with sales receipts from downtown businesses.
Firefighters provided water games for children at Liberty Park, Second and Main streets, followed with free watermelon.
Stone City Café donated a toy pedal fire truck and chances had been sold the previous week. Frances Smalley of Marion was the winner.
"It was a fantastic day," said Mike Regnier, Marion fire chief. He expressed his appreciation to Ampride and Stone City Café for their support.
The money will be used to purchase a set of protective bunker gear for the department.
