Geneva Runft
Geneva M. Runft, 93, died March 9, 2004, at Homestead Health Center, Wichita.
Born July 18, 1910, at McFarland, she was the daughter of William H. and Ida Mae Stewart.
A 1929 graduate of Herington High School, she also graduated from the Parkview School of Nursing in Manhattan.
She was a registered nurse at Herington Municipal Hospital for many years. She enjoyed sewing and traveling and was an avid sports fan.
She was a member of the Herington United Methodist Church and UMW, a 50-year member of Esther Chapter #96, Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Past Matrons Club, all of Herington.
On Jan. 8, 1933, she married Leland Runft at Newton. He died in 1998. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Lottie Beltz; and her parents.
Survivors include a son, Howard Runft of Wichita; a foster brother, LeRoy Lapham of Council Grove; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory, Herington Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Thompson officiating.
Burial was in Sunset Hll Cemetery, Herington. Eastern Star services were given by Esther Chapter #96, Order of the Eastern Star.
A memorial fund has been established with Herington United Methodist Church.
