George Helmer
George Helmer, 92, died Nov. 4, 2005, at Bethesda Home, Goessel.
Born Dec. 19, 1912, at Saskatchewan, Canada, he was the son of David and Anna (Eberhart) Helmer.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He retired as a truck driver for Harvey County. He also owned and operated Helmer's Vickers service station in Marion.
He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Georgia Vogel; six brothers, August, Dave, John, Harry, Albert, and Will Helmer; and a grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Newton; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Jerry Bessel of Assaria, Linda and Dan Stucky of Wichita, and Brenda and Mark Buller of Newton; two brothers, Fred Helmer and Ezra Helmer, both of Marion; sister, Ann Boese of Marion; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Salem United Methodist Church, Newton, with the Rev. Sherry Clemons officiating.
Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with the church.
