Geraldine Berg
Geraldine "Gerry" Louise Berg, 59, died Feb. 14, 2003, at her home in Marion.
Born Dec. 28, 1943, at Florence, she was the daughter of Junior and Betty (Meirowsky) Herzet.
A 1961 graduate of Marion High School, she worked for many years in the Marion County Clerk's office.
On Sept. 23, 1961, she married Donald Berg at St. Mark Catholic Church, Marion. The couple had two daughters, Donna and Brenda.
In 1969, the family moved to Emporia where they lived until 1976 when they returned to Marion to be close to family.
She worked as credit manager at Montgomery Ward in Emporia before going to work at IBP where she was employed for a number of years. Following their move to Marion, she continued to work at IBP, commuting to Emporia six days a week for several years. She later was a nurse aide at Florence Health Care, Salem Home in Hillsboro, and Marion Manor.
She had a strong work ethic which she instilled in her daughters. She enjoyed collecting antiques and collectibles and their home was filled with them.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Don; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Dennis Bernhardt and Brenda and Troy Dawson, all of Marion; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Don Ecker of Wichita; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Janet Herzet of Marion; and five grandchildren, Jamie and Jessica Bernhardt, Jordan and Jacob Harper, and Luke Dawson, all of Marion.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at Zeiner Funeral Home with Jane King officiating.
Music was provided by Steve Smith who sang "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace." Wanda Williams was the organist.
Casket bearers were Jared Herzet, Steve Vaughn, Larry Vaughn, Pat Carr, David Carr, and Roy Houdyshell.
Honorary casket bearers were Jacob Harper, Luke Dawson, and Curtis Floyd.
Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
A memorial fund has been established with Marion City Library.
