Get on with it

Apitifully few voted Tuesday (42 percent) in Marion's "advisory" election on the landfill question. Only 24 percent of registered voters prevailed. A minority won, the majority didn't vote.

Let's get on with it. Voters said they are not interested in hosting a landfill. They will forego the earnings and accept the obligation of coming up with an alternate source of revenue to provide needed city services, pay for closing the former landfill at Aulne (maybe the one on Walnut Street), pay for costs of constructing a district landfill, charge local users for trash service, and not whimper about "high taxes."

Maybe the late Slats Dawson, Elmdale banker, was right. He used to say: "Where taxes are highest is where livin' is best."
