Gladys Lespagnard

Gladys P. Lespagnard, 93, died May 17, 2003, at her home in Florence.

Born June 7, 1909, at the family farm home south of Cedar Point, she was the daughter of Harry and Maude (Giles) Fetrow.

She grew up on the family farm and graduated from New Hope School.

On Jan. 27, 1925, she married Ernest Lespagnard. They lived on the Lespagnard farm southeast of Cedar Point on Coon Creek and raised four children. Her life's work was that of a wife, mother, and homemaker.

In the early 1940s, they moved to their own farm where they lived until Ernest's death on Feb. 27, 1970. Gladys then moved to Florence.

Both were members of Florence Christian Church, later transferring their membership to Wonsevu Christian Church where they both were faithful leaders. When she moved to Florence, Gladys transferred her membership back to Florence Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a half brother, William Owen "Bud" Brigstocke; and a grandson, Larry Lee Williams.

Survivors include a son, George Lespagnard of Haysville; three daughters, Blanche and husband Bill Williams of Wichita, Ruth "Rusty" Ford of Georgetown, Texas, and Ernestine Hurdle of Florence; a brother, Mason Fetrow of Florence; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Florence Christian Church with the Revs. Harold Brown and Larry Timm officiating.

Vocalist Carol Mason sang "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Beyond the Sunset," accompanied by Lorene Brown on the piano.

Casket bearers were Randy and Brandon Lespagnard, Bob and Bruce Fetrow, B.J. Williams, and Tom Murphy.

Burial was in Cedar Point Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Florence Christian Church.
