Goentzel wins meet
Daniel Goentzel has been a standout performer for the Marion High School cross country team all season.
Goentzel rose to the top of the pack Thursday at the Council Grove cross country meet, finishing first in the varsity boys division with a time of 17:42.
"Daniel has been very consistent this season, and he ran away from the competition in this race," said Marion head coach Bethany Carlson.
Louis Holt and Ryan Jones medaled for the boys as well, sparking the varsity team to a first place finish overall. Holt and Matt Kirkpatrick ran personal best times in the race.
Danielle Cope continued her string of strong finishes with a third place showing in the girls' varsity division, recording a time of 17:45.
Camille Christensen and Tacy Taylor won additional medals to pace the girls' varsity to a third place team finish.
