Golden Living Center residents donned festive hats and tuned up their horns and other noise makers New Year's Eve while they enjoyed sparkling grape juice, cheese, crackers, chips, and dip. They celebrated early, then enjoyed birthday cake that Margie Stroda brought in for Maurice's 81st birthday, which was Dec. 31. A few hardy souls stayed up to watch the ball drop at midnight to usher in 2008.

Lisa had bingo Jan. 2 and on Jan. 4, Danyal hosted a ladies' tea while Helmut hosted "News and Views" and enjoyed a snack tray of goodies.

"A Taste of Orange" was enjoyed Jan. 5 to celebrate KU's Orange Bowl win. Orange juice, sliced oranges, and orange cookies were served to the group.

Pat Smith came Jan. 5 for rosary and communion and the Marion Presbyterian Church provided church services Jan. 6.

In honor of Elvis Presley's birthday Jan. 8, the music and movement exercise group enjoyed watching Reinhold Winter show them the twist. He did a great show and proved once again that age is just a number. Way to go Reinhold! The afternoon was spent on Elvis trivia and eating grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches, which were Elvis's favorite food.

Danyal had bingo Jan. 9 and Don Pracht conducted hymn sing with the residents. The fingernail lady was in house Jan. 9-10, cutting, filing, cleaning, and painting nails for the residents.

The craft Jan. 10 was snowflakes, which were cut out of paper folds in different designs. The finished products are being displayed in the dining and TV rooms for all to enjoy.

Helmut had men's coffee and visited with the men about happenings in the area.

Joyce Richmond had rosary and communion Jan. 12. "A Taste of Winter," consisting of hot chocolate and marshmallows and a variety of cookies were enjoyed by everyone that afternoon.

Good News Christian Fellowship conducted services the afternoon of Jan. 13.

The residents enjoyed bingo, snacks, and drinks Jan. 14.

Elaine Pfeiffer, Shirley Mann, and Pat Smith brought in swirl ice cream and cupcakes Jan. 15 to celebrate the January birthdays. Lora Hettenchach's birthday was on the 19th and Sadie Bernhardt will celebrate hers Friday. Each woman received a birthday gift and a happy birthday song in her honor.

Bowling is one of the residents' favorite exercise games as most of them did bowl in their younger days. Bingo was offered Friday afternoon.

Theresa Cady had rosary and communion Saturday morning and Emmanuel Baptist Church was in for the church service Sunday afternoon.

The residents learned many facts about Martin Luther King Jr. Monday during the morning mind-benders session. Many businesses close on this day out of respect for his contributions to our country.

The monthly potluck will be Tuesday, which also is Kansas Day. Our menu will be chicken fried steak or baked steak, crock corn, and delicious dishes by friends and family. We encourage you to bring a side dish and join the Golden Living residents in celebrating our great state of Kansas.
