Good post play provides win for Centre Cougars
Coach Russ Hake was pleased with his basketball team's performance Dec. 18 at Wakefield. The 80-51 victory followed on the heels of a loss Dec. 14 against Solomon. The Cougars now are 1-2 in league play.
"It was good to get a win before going into Christmas break," Hake said.
He noted that Todd Stahlecker had an outstanding game with a record 14 assists, also 15 points, including three three-pointers.
Grant Garrard was high-point man with 22 points including nine of 13 field goal attempts and four of four from the free-throw line. Kyle Luna added 18 points.
Hake said the team played well except for the second quarter, when they were outscored 20-14. A 23-point first quarter run by Centre offset the poor second quarter, allowing the Cougars to enter half-time up by 10, 37-27. They gained steadily after that with a third quarter score of 56-41 and a final score of 80-51.
