Government is irresponsible
To the Editor:
By what authority do our county commissioners use our money to reward county workers for maintaining or improving their health? How can it be that people who are hired by the commissioners to work for us in dispersing and being responsible in the use of tax funds cannot be responsible and disciplined as mature adults to provide for their own welfare? What are we giving them money for? What sense does that make if they aren't even responsible for their own welfare?
If my wife wants to go to the wellness place for her own health and well-being, she has to pay for it while paying for county employees who are immature and aren't capable of being responsible for themselves.
If commissioners are so concerned about our employees' health, let them take it out of their own pockets!
How about giving me a tax-free day for being responsible for my life! Isn't that something to consider? Shouldn't my taxes go to benefit me and make accommodations to my life, such as better roads and services?
It never ceases to amaze me the irresponsibility of government officials in assuming the right to disperse taxpayers' money any way they please and at their own discretion.
They tax and they tax and they tax. They'll keep on taxing to the point that people do not have the resources to provide for themselves. How am I to provide for myself when I'm taxed and taxed, and the revenues go to teach irresponsibility and dependency?
I feel that our county commissioners are the stepsons of the federal and state government and operate the same way. And that is to take responsibility away from the people so that government can be responsible.
The only thing is, in the foolishness of it, it's our resources that are drained away, our right to provide for ourselves. They act like it's their money.
The proof of the unsuccessfulness of the contribution of government is the fact that we have to pay more and more taxes.
Everywhere I look, taxes are going up. We unified our schools so we would have more efficient schools and it would cost us less.
We were promised that, if we had a lottery, it would pay for education, it would pay for roads and highways.
The cigarette tax would pay for educating our young people.
None of these promises have alleviated the need for more taxes.
Now, they say liquor-by-the-drink and agri-tourism will bring more revenue into the county.
It's all the same thing when the basic problem is they're stealing the wealth of the people and their personal ability to provide for themselves. That's the core issue here!
County commissioners talk as if they are concerned about our welfare. But really it's their welfare they are concerned about.
It seems to me that what we need is a cleaning out of government from top to bottom. Where do the government's resources come from? The people. That's who they are responsible to, the taxpayers.
The foolish farmer
Government at all levels reminds me of a foolish farmer who has a milk cow.
The cow is his resource and livelihood. The cow faithfully produces milk every day — which he distributes every day to those he has made dependent by taking away their responsibility to have their own milk cow.
The farmer doesn't provide feed to sustain that cow and doesn't buy a bull so the cow can reproduce and multiply.
At the same time, he expects the cow to produce more and more milk so he can continue to feed all the dependent people.
At the same time, he criticizes the cow for crapping on the grass, eating the grass, belching up toxic fumes and spoiling the environment, and polluting the water in the pond.
How long do you think that cow will produce milk for the farmer?
Where is the farmer going to go to get milk for these dependents he has created by promising them milk every day while doing nothing to keep that milk cow producing?
Besides that, he is too stupid to see what he is doing!
