Gutsch is first in state 1A powerlift contest
A group of lifters from Centre High School attended the state 1A power lifting meet April 26. They were accompanied by coaches Stan Wiles and Bud Peterson.
In individual competition, Curtis Gutsch placed first over-all in his weight division. He was first in squat, lifting 400 lbs., first in power clean at 300 lbs., and fourth in bench at 250 lbs.
His brother, Bryant Gutsch, was second over-all. He placed second in squat at 225 lbs., second in power clean at 195 lbs., and second in bench at 150 lbs.
Travis Burns was second over-all in his class. He placed fourth in squat at 320 lbs., second in power clean at 250 lbs., and second in bench at 225 lbs.
Todd Stahlecker placed third in squat at 325 lbs., third in power clean at 240 lbs., and fifth in bench at 195 lbs. He was fourth over-all.
Mark Pagenkopf took fourth in squat at 320 lbs., fourth in bench at 235 lbs., and fifth over-all.
Brent Carlson placed fifth in power clean at 185 lbs. and sixth in squat at 235 lbs.
Tad Remy placed first in squat.
The team placed third over-all with a score of 99. Quivira Heights was first at 192.5. Jetmore, at 160, was second. Ness City, Deerfield, and Hanston placed fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively.
