Gutsch leads Centre girls against Lebo

Megan Gutsch compiled 21 points Friday in Centre girls' loss to Lebo, 49-36. The game was played at Lebo.

At halftime, things were looking good for the Lady Cougars. After a 7-7 tie at the end of the first quarter, Centre outscored Lebo, 18-6, in the second quarter to take a 12-point lead. Gutsch scored all but four of the team's first-half points.

The tempo was reversed in the second half as the girls' scoring turned cold. A three-pointer by Jackie Klenda was Centre's only basket in the third quarter as Lebo added 16 to take a one-point lead, 29-28.

The Lady Cougars added eight points in the fourth quarter on field goals by Klenda, Krista Heiser, and Jenna Beneke, but Lebo added 20 to hand the team a 13-point loss.

Heiser and Gutsch had 10 rebounds each, and Klenda had five assists.

The junior varsity was defeated, 47-42, in an overtime game.

The Lady Cougars led 12-6 at the end of the first quarter, and trailed by one, 22-21, at halftime.

They were ahead by two points, 30-28, at the end of the third quarter, and the two teams were tied, 37-37, at the end of regulation play.

Centre was outscored 10-5 in overtime to lose by five points.

Kylie Burhoop led Centre's scoring with 16 points. She scored five field goals including one three-pointer, and five of eight free-throw attempts. She stole the ball six times.

Kristine Jirak led at the boards with nine rebounds. Burhoop had five. Samantha Alvarez and Nellie Hill blocked the ball two times each.
