Harlan Schlesener

Harlan L. (Charlie) Schlesener, 72, died Jan. 31, 2004, at his home in Hope.

Born Jan. 26, 1932, in Hope, he was the son of Robert C. Sr. and Selma (Peters) Schlesener.

A farmer and carpenter all his life, he was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shadybrook, where he also served on numerous church boards.

He was inducted into the National Softball Hall of Fame in Kansas City.

On April 6, 1952, he married Margie B. Miller in Tampa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Jr.; and four sisters, Selma Jean and Naverta Schlesener, Delores Bucholz, and Sylvia Aspegren.

Survivors include his wife, Margie; a son, Harlan D. (Butch) Schlesener of Herington; two daughters, Saundra Wall of Indianapolis, Ill., and Denise (Poo) Schlesener of Herington; two sisters, Lorna Wendlandt and Ruth Bond, both of Herington; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Shadybrook, with the Rev. John Riebhoff officiating.

Burial was in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Immanuel Lutheran Church, Herington High School Athletic Association, or Dickinson County Fast Pitch Softball Scholarship Fund.
