Harms appointed to academy selection board

Congressman Jerry Moran has announced that Kim Harms of Lincolnville has been appointed to serve on the First district Service Academy Selection Board.

As part of the 16-member board, Harms will help interview candidates for admission to U.S. Service Academies. Following interviews, the board will make recommendations to Congressman Moran for the final decision.

Those candidates scheduled to attend the event have submitted their applications for the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, or U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Interviews before the Selection Board are the next step in the process.

After graduating from Kansas State University, Harms helped start a leadership consulting business which allowed her to travel the United States, providing leadership and teamwork seminars to youth groups and businesses. She and her husband, Mark, now own and operate Harms Plainview Ranch.

"I am honored to have Harms join the Service Academy Selection Board," Moran said. "She is a proven leader and motivator and knows the skills that students must possess to succeed in a service academy."

The board is scheduled to meet Nov. 23 at Kansas Cosmosphere in Hutchinson to interview candidates.
