Harold McKibbin
Services for Harold Raymond McKibbin, 82, were held Monday afternoon at Zeiner Funeral Home with the Rev. David Branson officiating.
He died Dec. 25, 2002, at Newton Medical Center.
A carpenter, he built and remodeled many homes in Marion and at Marion County Lake. He also worked in Wichita as a finish carpenter in a cabinet factory.
Born Feb. 23, 1920, at Marion, he was the son of the late James H. and Olga (Jernberg) McKibbin. He was raised in the community and graduated from Marion High School.
On June 12, 1940, he was married to Laura Buehler in Marion. The couple had two children.
On Aug. 12, 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was trained as a radio mechanic. He also qualified as an expert marksman, received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre ribbon, and Victory ribbon. On March 13, 1946, he was honorably discharged at Fort Leavenworth.
He formerly was a member of the VFW post at Marion, always enjoying cooking at post functions. He also had been commander of the local American Legion post.
He had many friends and a great sense of humor, enjoying repeating stories.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by one brother, Chester.
Survivors include his wife, Laura, Newton; son, Larry, Parker; two sisters, Irene Richmond, Marion and Gladys Weber, Wichita; daughter, Carol Craig, Newton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Greg Bowers was vocalist at the service and Shirley Bowers the organist.
Casket bearers were Vincent Enriquez, Zachary Enriquez, Collin McKibbin, Jason Farmer, Don Burkholder, and Maynard Weber.
Military graveside rites were provided by the Fort Riley burial detail.
A memorial fund has been established in his name with the Alzheimer's Association.
