Harry Klose

Harry Klose, 92, died April 7, 2004, at Marion.

Born March 18, 1912, at Herington, he was the son of Henry and Susie (Berg) Klose.

He grew up in the Ramona area, attending Highland grade school. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1941 to October 1945, in an artillery battalion.

After his service to his country, he worked as a crane and shovel operator for Riddle Quarries (later Hallett Construction).

On Dec. 28, 1952, he married Louise Schubert-Poppe. The couple had one daughter.

He was a faithful member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and the VFW. In early years he enjoyed woodworking in his shop and was an avid baseball fan. He also enjoyed the company of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; his parents; three sisters, Rosalie, Hannah, and Leona; and a brother, Henry.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry Hoffner of Lenexa; two brothers, Eddie of Marion and Albert of Hillsboro; two grandchildren; and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Alan Stahlecker officiating.

Music included "Just As I Am," "Nearer My God to Thee," and "I Know That My Redeemer Lives." Julie Krich was organist.

Mike Klose sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee," and was accompanied by Janel Dvorak.

Casket bearers were Gary Klose, Mike Klose, Duane Klose, John Schubert, Gene Danitschek, and Frank Schubert.

Burial with full military rites by a Fort Riley color guard was in Lewis Cemetery, Ramona.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
