Harry Weibert
Good friend and longtime community supporter Harry Weibert died this week. Though he was 91, few people realized his age. They thought of Harry in younger terms, and he was. He was young in spirit. He was always willing to help young people. He especially liked children.
Most Marionites think of Harry for the 30 years he owned and operated the Owl Car Café, the popular downtown Marion eating establishment. He became the "friend of man" during those three decades. Others recall that Harry was completely dedicated to taking impeccable care of Marion Cemetery during the 30s and 40s and again from 1972 until his retirement in 1995.
Harry Weibert was many things, but above all he was a friend of mankind. People like Harry are rare to find and hard to lose.
