Harry Weibert
Harry Weibert, 91, retired businessman and cemetery sexton, died June 13, 2002, at Marion.
The oldest son of the late Peter and Mollie (Steinle) Weibert, he was born Feb. 2, 1911, near Durham.
Harry's mother died when he was seven and many of his brothers were raised by other members of the family.
The family not only lived at Durham but also in Oklahoma and Montana for short periods. Harry and his brother Peter remained with the father.
On April 4, 1931, he was married to Irene Kline. The couple had one daughter, Peggy. The family lived at Marion.
He worked for various businesses for several years, including Jess West Dairy, Greenemeyer Bakery, Beaston Market, REA, Slusser Drilling, construction of air bases, and at Wichita in the aircraft industry.
He and his wife, Irene, owned and operated the Owl Car Café for 30 years. He also was sexton of Marion Cemetery in the late 1930s and 1940s as well as from 1972 until his retirement in 1995.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene, by his second wife, Lenora, by his parents, two brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include his daughter Peggy and her husband Jim Cather, Marion; four brothers, Pete of McPherson, Edwin of Fresno, Calif., Dave and Ivan of Hillsboro; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; stepsons Garry and Bob Klose; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday morning at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Marion, with Pastor John Ryding officiating.
Music was by vocalist Greg Carlson with Julie Krich as organist; as well as congregational singing.
Casket bearers were Fred Cather, Joshua Cather, Andy Cather, Ed Cather, Aaron Cather, and Randy Jones. Honorary bearers were Amanda Cather, CharLynne Cather, Chelsea Cather, and Austin Jones.
Burial was in Marion Cemetery.
A memorial has been established at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
