Harvest Community Theater to debut at Burdick

Jennifer Montgomery, English teacher at Centre High School, has organized a group called the Harvest Community Theater with the assistance of Peggy Carlson, Lincolnville.

The group will present its first drama during Burdick's Labor Day celebration.

The performance is not a part of the celebration and will not interfere with scheduled activities.

"I put this together to benefit the community because people were ready and wanted to do it," Montgomery said, noting that volunteers were plentiful.

The 11-member cast has been working on a drama called, "Death by Chocolate," by Paul Freed. It is a murder mystery/comedy in which a health resort is re-opening following the apparent suicide of its former owner. People are mysteriously dying after eating chocolate at the resort and attempts are being made to find the killer.

Cast members are: Helen Spachek, Barry Montgomery, Janet Matz, Peggy Carlson, Melia Vinduska, and Jennifer Montgomery, all of Lincolnville; Phil Peterson, Shirley Miller, George Miller, and Tom Nelson of Burdick; and Bill Peterson of Herington.

A $1 dress rehearsal will be held at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 30 at Burdick United Methodist Church. There will be a dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 31 and a 2 p.m. matinee Sept. 1.

Cost for the dinner theater is $25 per couple or $15 single. Sunday matinee tickets are $6 each.

Most of the proceeds will be used to purchase additional theater equipment for the CHS drama program which Montgomery directs.

Call her for tickets at 620-924-5553.
