All the farmers are busy putting up hay and combining wheat. The women are busy with their gardens and cooking. They are taking lunches to the fields so the men can get as much work done as possible each day now that the rain has stopped and they can get in some of the fields.

Monday visitors at the Howard Collett farm were Bob and Ann Paracian of Richland, Wash., Evelyn Paracian of Chicago, Carrie Collett of Olathe, and Chris Paracian of Overland Park. Cate and Leon Hayen visited Howard and Beth Tuesday evening.

Vicki Smolik has a deer enjoying her flowers. They seem to love eating the buds from the roses before she gets to see them bloom.

Shirley and David Bowers met Beverly and Kevin Jennison and Betsy Bunnel, Joshua and Kelli at Beto Junction Wednesday evening for supper and visiting. Shirley, David and Cy and L.Dena Goertz attended the Come Join Us Sunday school class cook-out Thursday evening at the home of Eugene and Phyllis Enos.

Dorothy and John Hayen attended the visitation at the funeral home last Friday evening for R.J. Bateman. John also attended the funeral service.

Kristine Bateman was home for the weekend and went to church with Jeannine Sunday morning.

Leon and Cate Hayen visited Dorothy and John Hayen the first of last week.

Richard and Patty McLinden and Bud and Roseva McLinden drove to the senior center in Bel Aire Saturday for the 60th wedding anniversary dinner honoring Marion and Lela Melson.

Alvina Hoffman had a surprise visit Saturday evening from her grandson, Leonardo Renaldi. They had dinner together at McGillicuddy's, then he drove her to the reservoir where she enjoyed watching the fishermen and boaters. Leonardo lives in Alabama and they had a great visit.

Mark and Annette Wilcox, Havilah and Paul have returned from a trip to Chicago.

Betty Ireland called me last night to tell me Walt was home. He came home Saturday and is improving. His medicine was not properly adjusted and once that was corrected, he surprised everyone with his improvement.

Elmer and Leonore Klassen visited Leonard and Rosalie Klassen Monday night. Leonard and Rosalie had supper Sunday night with Vernon and Rachel Friesen at Kingfisher's Inn. Arlene and Calvin Dahl of Maple Grove, Minn., have arrived at the Klassen farm to help with harvest and will be here for a while.

I was in Wichita again this week and enjoyed a potluck dinner honoring Warren and Betty Townsend's wedding anniversary. The Townsends repeated their vows at the Sunday morning church service. Warren and John Ireland worked together in the Mulvane school system and got to be good friends. Warren was our choir director for years and we always get special musical numbers when he and his family come home to visit.
