Harvey Martens

Harvey Martens, 80, died April 3, 2004, at Wichita.

Born April 11, 1923, in Lehigh, he was the son of George and Hattie (Guhr) Martens.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a retired U.S. Post Office letter carrier.

On June 29, 1952, he married Neva "Doreen" Schlehuber.

He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, George, Herman, Jake, Henry, Alvin, Albert, and Elmer; and a sister, Linda Covey.

Survivors include his wife, Doreen; two daughters, Deborah Taylor of Valley Center and Karen Case of Sedgwick; three sisters, Anna Smith, Freda Birkle, and Elda Pshigoda, all of Hillsboro; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at Assembly of God Church, Valley Center.

Burial was in Kechi Township Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with the church.
