Hazel Kern
Hazel M. Kern, 87, of Herington, died Jan. 6, 2002, at the Lutheran Home. Born May 1, 1914, near White City, she was the daughter of Chester A. and Elsie M. (Shore) Eggman.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Herington United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Thompson officiating. Burial was at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Kern was a homemaker. She also worked at the Herington Middle School, Herington High School, and the Lutheran Home as a cook. She also did baby-sitting.
She was a member of the Herington United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and graduated from White City High School in 1932.
She married Guy E. Kern at White City on April 9, 1939, he died May 2, 1966. She also was preceded in death by a son Richard "Dick" Kern on March 27, 1997, a sister Iva Reissig, and her parents.
Survivors include three sons: Larry Kern of Vassar, Jim Kern of Edmond, Okla., and Ken Kern of Eureka; a sister Mabel Boyer of Solomon; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
