Heerey family celebrates anniversary
The entire family of Charles and Virginia Heerey enjoyed an early celebration of their parents 50th wedding anniversary when they spent 10 days, from July 31 to Aug. 10, in the Hawaiian Islands.
Flying first to Honolulu, they toured Pearl Harbor, the USS Missouri, and a took a half-day city tour which included Punch Bowl Cemetery and many other points of interest. Everyone hiked to Diamond Head Crater and also enjoyed Waikiki Beach.
The next three days were spent on Maui. All drove the Hana Highway and took a boat excursion to snorkel and scuba dive. The highlight in Maui was attending the Old Lahaina Luau in its beautiful setting.
The final three days were spent on the big island of Hawaii at the Hilton Waikolsa Village Resort area. Here the group toured Volcano National Park and hiked up to where the active lava was flowing. They report it was a great thing to see.
The trip was a pre-celebration to honor Charles and Virginia's 50th wedding anniversary which is in December.
