Hefley elected president of Marion National Bank

James R. Hefley was elected president of Marion National Bank at the board of directors' meeting on April 24. He will assume his duties in July. Larry Loomis was named vice chairman of the board of directors.

Loomis, in making the announcement, said that Hefley will bring the banking background and experience to provide excellent leadership for the future. "He will help us build on our commitment to providing a high level of personalized service," Loomis said.

Hefley is a native of Marion County. He graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in accounting and a master of business administration degree.

He is an alumnus of the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin. He has been in banking since 1974, most recently serving as president of Emprise Bank in Potwin.

Hefley and his wife, Leanna, have three college-age children. Leanna works as a registered nurse at Newton Medical Center in Newton.

Hefley said Friday he was "looking forward to joining the Marion community and its business community and helping the town grow. It's an exciting town, with lots of opportunities."

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Hefley, live in his hometown, Hillsboro. They have been in the lumber business for many years, and formerly farmed as well.

Loomis is stepping down as president after more than eight years in that post. The Jewell County native will remain a bank officer until the end of this year, he said. After that, he may or may not remain on the board of directors, but his involvement with day-to-day operations of the bank will cease, he said Friday.
