Helmer injured in farm accident
Ray Helmer of Marion reportedly is recovering well from injuries received Saturday when a power takeoff shaft from a tractor hit him in the head at his farm at 2467 K-150.
According to information received from Marion County Sheriff Lee Becker, the incident occurred at approximately 3 p.m., after which Ray's wife Jamie called Marion County Emergency Communications for assistance.
At 3:18 p.m., a Marion-based ambulance arrived at the Helmer residence and found Helmer lying on a couch inside the home.
A Lifeteam helicopter was called and Helmer was flown to the trauma unit at Wesley Medical Center for treatment.
