The big news out here this week is that Ray Helmer came home Thursday. He is not to work for awhile but is walking about and with family and friends. Family and friends are doing his chores for awhile as he rests and heals.

Sarah and Rachel Davidson were in the high school musical "The Wizard of Oz" Friday and Saturday nights at the city building. Both girls participated Saturday in the Quiz Bowl at Rock Creek high school and took second place. Family members visiting at the Davidson home to see the play were Sunny and Rae Mona Herman of Hays, Rose's sister Michelle Lopez, and her brother Tim Herman and family from the Kansas City area. The Davidson family held their Thanksgiving dinner Sunday while all of Rose Davidson's family was visiting.

Dorothy Hayen was able to go to church Sunday morning and on to dinner at Florence for a big Thanksgiving dinner. Leon Hayen was here the first of the week doing some more work on Dorothy's kitchen then he had knee surgery Wednesday on the second knee. He is home following the surgery and recovering nicely from this procedure.

Wasn't that a great article in the paper about our own Vicki Smolik? I know how good her baking is because Rosalie Klassen took me to Vicki's home when I first moved out here for coffee and we got a sample of her baked goods. Vicki and Edmund Steiner went to Emporia Friday and visited Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Gutsch.

Youngtown people reporting that they attended the funeral services Tuesday morning for Josie Geisbrect at Florence were David and Shirley Bowers, John Hayen, Skip and Eileen Sieger, Leonard and Rosalie Klassen, Vicki Smolik, Dorothy and Lawrence Gilbert, and Margaret Ireland. Charles and Rosalene Stinchcomb were at the funeral home Monday night but didn't get to the funeral because Rosalene wasn't feeling well Tuesday morning. She was feeling better this morning, Charles reported.

Shirley Bowers and Margaret Ireland attended Athena Club Tuesday afternoon at September Apartments. Shirley and David Bowers helped Abigail Paden celebrate her 14th birthday Monday night at the home of her parents, Doug and Janelle Paden in Newton. Shirley and Greg and Mary Beth Bowers, Rhonny and Steven attended the high school musical Friday night at the city building. Luke Bowers was a member of the cast.

A group of Eastmoor people carpooled Saturday night to the Prairie Rose Chuck Wagon Christmas show and supper. Youngtown people reporting they were with the group were David and Shirley Bowers, Pam and Glen Hett, Cy and L.Dena Goertz, Skip and Eileen Sieger, and Leonard and Rosalie Klassen.

Lesley and Chris Allen were coming home to spend Thanksgiving with her parents, Skip and Eileen Sieger, when they were hit by a deer just outside Hannibal Mo. Their car was totaled but they thankfully were not hurt. They spent the night in Quincy Ill., and called a friend to come for them. Siegers hope to get to spend some time with them during the holidays, they just have to see how things develop.

Richard and Patty McLinden served Thanksgiving dinner Sunday to Sherwood Waggy of Florence, Gene Obee of Burns, Patty's Aunt Betty Mitchel and cousin Mike of Silverdale, Susie and Craig Morton, Regan and Jordan, Chuck and Lorie McLinden, Lauren and Jarret, and Roseva McLinden.

I spent a few days this weekend in Wichita with Marj and Joe Johnson and Ethan. I wasn't feeling well so she took me Friday to the doctor in Hillsboro and then took me home with her. She brought me back Sunday evening.

Seth and Brenda Larson and Kyle visited Sunday afternoon with Rosalie and Leonard Klassen.
