Hett wins Sacred Heart Invitational

Freshman claims first win of his young career

Typically when a freshman enters high school athletics they're not expecting to accomplish much. Marion freshman golfer Travis Hett apparently didn't receive the memo.

The freshman nabbed his first career win in less than five golf tournaments at the Sacred Heart Invitational golf tournament Friday in Salina. His win also helped propel the team to a first-place finish in the four-man competition, outpacing the closest team by just two strokes.

After the rain subsided, Hett shot a 75 at the Salina Municipal Golf Course and stood in a three-way tie with a golfer from Bennington and another from Claflin. The play-off went to the sixth handicap hole and Hett was crowned the champion.

Marion's Nick Carlson finished fifth overall with a 77. Travis's older brother Nickolas shot an 81 during the competition. The Hett duo finished second in the two-man event scoring 156 points total.
