Hetts net victory for MCAA league

Three Warriors will play in optimist all-star game

All-star games are supposed to be high-scoring, and the Mid-Central Activities Association-Heart of America game didn't disappoint.

The two area league all-star squads met Saturday at Hesston College and played down to the wire, with MCAA coming out on top, 86-84.

A last-second shot by HOA seemed to tie the game, but the referees said the buzzer sounded before the ball left the player's hands.

Travis Hett of Marion High School earned MVP honors after scoring 15 points, grabbing four rebounds, and rejecting three shots. He also had one assist for good measure.

Fellow teammate Jason Hett had a nearly identical line with 14 points, four rebounds, and one assist.

Austin Ratzlaff of Halstead had 14 points as well, and Smoky Valley's Justin Holcom added 12.

The two Hetts will have one last high school basketball game together this weekend when they play in the Flint Hills Optimist Club High School All Star Basketball Classic at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at White Auditorium in Emporia.

The game will not be without a twist however. The two will be on opposite teams. Travis will be a member of the away team, and Jason will be on the home team.

Warrior girls' basketball player Erin Carr will represent the girls' away team at 6 p.m.
