Hodson earns Eagle Scout rank

Marion resident Paul Hodson recently attained the rank of Eagle Scout and will be recognized for his achievement at 2 p.m. April 22 at Marion Presbyterian Church, 610 Lawrence, Marion.

Presenters will be Brice Goebel of Troop 102 and NASA astronaut Sam Gemar of Troop 219, both Eagle Scouts. Only three percent of Boy Scouts of America achieve this highest ranking.

Currently a member of Troop 102 that is sponsored by Eastmoor United Methodist Church of Marion, Hodson joined the Cub Scouts in 1994 at the age of six. As a Webelos, he completed the COPE course at Quivira Scout Ranch near Sedan. He earned 27 merit badges locally and at various camps he has attended. He served as assistant patrol leader and senior patrol leader of his troop.

For his Eagle project, Hodson designed and led his troop in constructing a 27x4-foot brick sidewalk lined with railroad ties at Marion Municipal Airport. The troop assisted Hodson in painting the parking lot fence, gate, wind sock tower, and roadway sign. The entire project took more than 90 hours and 15 people participated with City of Marion employees.

Hodson is a senior at Marion High School, a member of the National Honor Society, and will graduate with honors this May. He is the son of Tonya Hodson and Don Hodson of Marion. He has been accepted to the University of Kansas and will major in computer engineering.
