Hospital board approves bills, software
Staff reporter
The Board of Directors of Marion County Hospital District #1 met Friday noon to approve bill payments and purchased additional computer software and equipment.
The board approved $164,205 in accounts payable.
In other business:
— Computer software for pharmacy usage was approved for $31,125. The board also approved the purchase of two printers for a total of $1,800.
— Board member Greg Bowers asked chief financial officer Kevin Cronkleton to clarify cash flow issues regarding repayment from Medicare. Cronkleton said the hospital eventually receives full payment from Medicare, receiving partial payment at the time the claim is submitted and the remainder at the end of the year.
— Dr. Angela Meyer was approved to provide weekend emergency room coverage.
— An amended contract review policy was approved, clarifying the amount of $5,000 hospital personnel can approve without prior board approval.
— Cronkleton reported a bond policy was in place that included the board's treasurer for $500,000 worth of coverage. After receiving this information, the board determined additional coverage was not necessary since the existing policy would meet state statute.
— The board will meet with the hospital's strategic planning consultant April 13. It will be a public meeting with senior management, medical staff, and department heads.
The meeting will begin at 6:15 p.m. in the clinic basement.
Hospital administrator Thom Smith suggested the completed plan be reviewed when new board members are elected.
— Bowers reported an appeal to the Kansas Board of Tax Appeals for the property the district owns at 921 E. Main Street was denied exemption.
The entire tax amount will be due upon request.
— The board recessed for a 15-minute executive session with Cronkleton and Smith.
The meeting reconvened with no decisions.
The regular meeting of the hospital board will be at 7:30 p.m. March 29 in the clinic basement.
