Hospital district buys former dentist office

Looking toward the future in recruiting new health professionals to town, Marion County Hospital District No. 1 Board of Directors has purchased a building formerly used as a dental practice.

The board purchased the brick building located on the southwest corner of Main and Roosevelt streets. Previously, the building was used by Dr. Timothy Woods for his dental practice.

"The hospital doesn't have any other room left for a doctor or dentist to use. So, we thought it was something we should own," explained Gene Winkler, board president.

As a possible immediate use, Winkler said the building might be utilized by Carolan McFarland, who offers massage therapy. Her practice is currently located in the basement of St. Luke Medical Clinic.

The hospital board purchased the building for $45,000, Winkler said. Since the building is already configured for use as a dentist's office it could be readily used for other health professionals.

"If Carolan goes in, only a very little amount of work would have to be done," Winkler said.
