Hospital management firm officials plan visit
Officials from Quorum Health Resources, a company that may want to manage St. Luke Hospital, will be in Marion July 28-30. They will talk to physicians and other health-care professionals, and to some community leaders.
Three officials from the Brentwood, Tenn.-based hospital consulting and management firm made a presentation to the hospital board of directors June 12.
Doug Newman, St. Luke administrator, announced the upcoming visit at Thursday evening's brief meeting of the hospital board.
Quorum officials also plan to visit individually with members of the hospital board, on July 29.
Quorum works with more than 200 hospitals in 44 states, including four in Kansas — in Lawrence, Emporia, Coffeyville, and Chanute.
Newman said there will be a planning meeting July 25 with human resources representatives from the hospital, concerning a survey of needs and desires taken recently.
Board member Martin Tice said valuation is down in the hospital district, for purposes of ad valorem property taxes, and also is down somewhat in USD 408.
Tice is business manager and board of education clerk for the school district.
He said the hospital district's mill levy should be kept as it is. Board member Peggy Blackman agreed, saying she certainly did not want to see it lowered any.
