How about a slice of watermelon?

What tastes better on a hot July day than a big piece of ice cold watermelon? Let the juice run down your chin, and see how far you can spit those little shiny black seeds! (In the kitchen sink, of course.)

I remember when we wore black arm bands when Rudolph Valentino died. I feel like wearing one now that my favorite actress is gone. What a gal — beautiful, smart, independent, and talented. A friend brought me the video of "The African Queen." I spent a whole afternoon with Katherine Hepburn and "Bogie" in that wreck of a boat going down the river in Africa. I fought the gnats and mosquitoes and picked off the leeches. What a trip that was!

I have just finished reading a new novel, "The DaVinci Code" by Dan Brown. Pretty exciting. It's a mystery, a modern search for the Holy Grail.

Now I am reading "In the Presence of My Enemies" by Gracia Burnham. It is interesting and well written. I keep thinking what would I do under those same circumstances. Not well, I'm sure.

I have just learned that 10,000 more words have been added to the new dictionary. This is discouraging — I haven't used all the ones already in there. I find I rely on the dictionary for a lot of words. I think I have spelled a word right, then I doubt it and go look for it in the dictionary. I usually find I was right in the first place. I find myself reading all the words above and below the one I'm looking for. Sometimes they are mighty strange! Do you do that?
