Hunter safety class will be in November

Kansas residents who wish to hunt by themselves in the near future will have a chance for a hunter safety class this month in Marion County.

The seminar will run Nov. 18-20 at Marion Elementary School in the multi-purpose room.

In order to hunt alone in the state of Kansas residents born after July 1, 1957, must take this class.

Cindy Ragland of Flint Hills Firearms and Retrievers, 500 East Main, Marion, is an organizing instructor of the event.

She said the program is essential for hunters to hunt safely.

Ragland said hunters under the age of 27 have to also pass the course and carry the certificate with them when hunting.

The event will run from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

The free class is limited to 40 people. Sign up at Flint Hills Firearms and Retrievers and pick up a hunter safety book.

Ragland said there will be a written test as well as a trail walk where the hunters must identify things such as game and safe shots.

"It's not just a classroom lecture," Ragland said.

Ducks and Quails Unlimited of Marion will sponsor the event along with Ragland's store.

Certified instructors from the region will run the event. For more information call Flint Hills Firearms and Retrievers at (620) 382-2943.
