I'm overwhelmed

RWhat can I say? I'm overwhelmed by all this attention. The OE (as he calls himself) went overboard in his "Luta" editorial. I had to pinch myself to see if it was really me. I do appreciate all those kind words.

Speaking of the Luta, I remember when Governor Carlin was here at one of the Old Settlers' gatherings and at that time I was fighting to keep our bridge over the Luta. I took him over to show him that our bridge was still in good condition and he said he would bring it up with state engineers. No government engineer is going to give up a chance to spend our money to retain something old, much better to build something new — am I right?

I remember when the VFW ladies on Memorial Day always dropped beautiful flower wreaths from the bridge into the free-flowing water of the Luta. Very impressive!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could just push a button to bring up a name or an occasion buried deep in our brains? I just go blank sometimes when I need a name. I wish I could shake my head like one of those toy plastic balls and the name would float to the surface. Sometimes when I'm looking at someone face to face or have them on the telephone, I try to keep the conversation going, hoping that some clue will come forth to reveal their identity. Oh well, I guess we just have to do the best we can with what we have.

Now, let's see, what is my newest great-great-grandson's name?
