Idella Houdyshell

Idella May Houdyshell, 83, died Dec. 14, 2005, at Presbyterian Manor, Topeka.

Born June 8, 1922, on a farm near Elmdale, she was the daughter of Roy and Mabel (Sampson) Pringle.

On Oct. 12, 1940, she married George Houdyshell at Cottonwood Falls.

The couple lived in Marion and Idella worked at Boeing as a "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. She also was a nurse's aide at Marion Manor and Moundridge Manor. After retiring from nursing, she was a receptionist at Marion Senior Center.

She was a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George in 1977; son, Larry; brother, Roy Pringle; two sisters, Ruth Anderson and Rosella Pringle; and four grandchildren, Carissa Houdyshell, Aaron Houdyshell, Koel Honas, and Meghann Honas.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Judy Houdyshell of Lincolnville; daughter and son-in-law, Beckey and John Honas of Silver Lake; and five grandchildren, Derek Houdyshell, Jason Houdyshell, Sara Houdyshell, Hagen Honas, and Dean Honas.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at Valley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Phil Smith officiating.

Vocalist was Patty Starchman. Organist was Burton Tidwell.

Casket bearers were Ron Houdyshell, Ronny Houdyshell, Tim Houdyshell, Pete Starchman, Don Berg, and Dave Loveless.

Burial was in Marion Cemetery.

Memorial funds have been established with Heart of America Hospice and Alzheimer's Association.
