Information sought by wind farm developer

Business owner Rex Savage advised Marion County Planning Commission Thursday that plans were in the works for a wind generation operation within the county.

Savage and the commission discussed time lines for construction, power purchases, and leases for a wind farm.

No definite plans were announced.

In other business:

— A variance of three acres from a 10-acre parcel was approved for Joseph Stanford of rural Peabody. Stanford's grandson Corey Stanford wanted to purchase three acres with an existing home.

The board of zoning appeals was assured there were at least 100 feet setbacks from existing structures to property lines. A survey will be conducted when the sale occurs.

The variance was approved with the conditions that the property cannot be subdivided, setbacks are observed, and a copy of a survey is filed with the zoning administrator.

— Two lot splits were approved by the planning commission.

Diepenbrock Farms requested a five-acre lot split located in part of the northwest quarter of section 31, township 17, and range four east, rural Lost Springs, with existing home from an 80-acre parcel.

A lagoon will be installed and a new water well may be drilled.

Robert Yunghans requested a lot split of 16 acres from an 80-acre parcel located in part of the northeast quarter of section 16, township 21, and range two east, rural Hillsboro, to build a new house.

The lot split was requested for mortgage financing.

David Brazil, county zoning administrator, said a building permit had been issued because it met the criteria. A lagoon system was being planned.

— Eileen Sieger was re-elected as chairman of the planning commission and board of zoning appeals, and David Mueller was re-elected as vice chairman of the two boards.

— Appointments were approved to the board of zoning appeals: Sieger, Mueller, Mary Avery, Ervin Ediger, Marquetta Eilerts, Willis Ensz, and Glen Unrau. Bob Maxwell was appointed alternate.

Members of the planning commission are appointed to the appeals board based on seniority of service to the board.

One vacancy remains on the planning commission from commission district one.

The next meeting of the planning commission/board of zoning appeals will be at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 23 in the courthouse.
