Injured soldier has Marion connection
Once again, the Middle East war has hit close to home.
Ryan Newell, the husband of Carrie Wunderlick Newell, who recently returned to Marion to live, was severely injured in an IED explosion in Afghanistan.
According to Carrie's mother, Shawn Wunderlick of Marion, both legs of the U.S. Army soldier were amputated because of the severity of the explosion. Ryan's right arm was burned but was not a severe injury.
Ryan was flown to Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany and then flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
Carrie and Ryan's family are with Ryan at the Army hospital.
