Injuries, sickness slow Marion runners

With three girls missing Thursday at the Hesston cross country meet, Marion finished in 15th place.
The boys' team took sixth.
Amanda Richmond was the girls' team lone medalist with a two-mile time of 18 minutes, 34 seconds.
She finished 18th, dropping 51 seconds off her personal record.
"I was very pleased with her performance," head coach Bethany Carlson said. "I expect her time to keep dropping as she has made the decision to only do cross country and not volleyball."
Two other runners had their best days at the meet.
Lucy Collett finished with a time of 22:00, taking 67 seconds off her personal record, and earning a varsity spot Thursday at the Peabody meet.
Katie Maag had by far the biggest improvement, taking nearly nine minutes off her time at the first meet, after running in 27:40.
"[She] has been working hard everyday at practice and it is paying off," Carlson said.
Other runners for MHS were Jaclyn DeForest (19:39, 30th), Brooke Johnson (20:22, 39th), Bridget Lundy (21:57, 54th), and Danae Edwards (24:25, 73rd).
Camille Christensen, Tacy Taylor, and Shayla Rahe all were unable to race because of injury or sickness.
The boys' team brought home three medals, with Ryan Jones leading the way.
His 3.1-mile time of 18:57 was good enough for sixth place.
"He led the team again this week," Carlson said.
Right behind him were medal winners Louis Holt (19:31, 10th) and Elliot Hett (20:17, 18th).
Elliot Hett, along with Isaac Hett and Brady Hudson all set personal records at the meet.
Isaac was 25th with a time of 20:38, and Hudson was 40th with a time of 21:32.
"I was very pleased with the boys' team placing sixth," Carlson said, "however, I think we are capable of doing better and being more competitive in the upcoming meets."
The Warriors will run at Peabody Thursday for their third meet of the season.
