Irene Cox
Irene B. Cox, 92, died Feb. 16, 2004, at Herington Municipal Hospital.
Born Sept. 9, 1911, north of Herington in the Shady Brook community, she was the daughter of Albert C. and Ida A. (Will) Kandt.
A life-long resident of Herington, she graduated from Herington High School in 1933. She was a homemaker and worked as a clerk at Robson's Pharmacy.
In June 1943, she married William Cox in Nebraska and he was killed in action in 1945 during World War II.
She also was preceded in death by her only brother, Arthur Kandt; a sister, Olga Burke; and her parents.
Survivors include four sisters, Eleanor DeVries, Esther Czarnowsky, and Viola Czarnowsky, all of Herington and Agnes Tannehill of Wichita.
Funeral services were held Thursday morning at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Herington, with the Rev. Troy Slater officiating.
Burial was in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Herington.
Memorial funds have been established with the church or Dickinson County Hospice.
