It s good for everyone

Prospective homeowners have a unique opportunity to get paid to build a home in Marion.

A few weeks ago Marion City Commission agreed to provide $1,000 grants for people who build homes in Marion.

Since that meeting, a committee has been contacting business owners about offering additional incentives for home builders. Many businesses have agreed to be part of this project.

Skeptics wonder how Marion will benefit from this offer. Why should we care if other people get a break to build a home in Marion?

By providing home builders with incentives to build and live in Marion, we're helping Marion's population grow and helping Marion's economy.

Hmmm.

New homes bring new families. New families mean additional enrollment in local schools, not to mention spending in local businesses. New families bring new ideas — that's something every community can use.

Home building, or any kind of construction, means employment. When considering what's involved in building a house, the skills and people working on the project are numerous. From lumber to concrete, fixtures to electricity, plumbing, landscaping, roofing, painting — well, you get the idea. It takes a lot of people to build a house.

These people get paid to do a job. Their paychecks are used to pay taxes, buy groceries, and provide for their families.

Bottom line — it's good for Marion and that means it's good for everyone who lives here — including the skeptics.
