It's hot at Marion County Lake

I know we've needed the rain and I don't mean to complain, but I'm having "no sunshine" withdrawals. Why can't it rain at night, then be bright and sunny during the day? The sun finally came out after lunch Saturday so I went for my walk. I just can't talk enough about the pretty Cottonwood trees in their full fall bloom. I usually want to go to Missouri or Arkansas this time of year to see the fall foliage, but don't have to this year — it's just as pretty here. If you haven't been out to see all the colored trees, get out soon before the winter weather blows them all away.

Did you remember to set your clocks back? I know of a few that didn't. One man came to church an hour early, went home then came back again, and son-in-law was an hour early for work and had to wait for them to open up. Now to get used to this time again. By 10 a.m., it feels like noon and by 4 p.m. I swear it's six o'clock and supper time, and we can barely stay awake for the 10 p.m. news! Oh, well, such is life and you have to have something to complain about, right?

We had several fishermen out over the weekend, most of them for the heated dock. They did catch some nice crappie, but for the most it was slow. Late night fishermen were using minnows next to the bank where the shad were working and they were catching some crappie and saugeye. Most of the saugeye were running about 16 to 17 inches and they have to be 18" to keep.

I reported an eight-pound walleye last week out of the heated dock — my mistake, it was a five pounder instead. It still was a nice fish.

The last of the trailer house people were up to winterize their trailers before the cold weather sets in. That's always a job that has to be done if you don't want a sprinkler system in your trailer next spring.

The hall was used Saturday by the O'Connor family and the Koehns used it on Sunday.

Don't forget Chat and Dine this Saturday evening and please be nice to the little witches and goblins that come to see you on Halloween!
