It's official: Wendy's is coming
It's official!
After months of speculation and rumor, it was confirmed Friday that Wendy's is coming to Hillsboro.
The former McDonald's building on East D Street was purchased by Sunset Equities of McPherson last year. The McPherson-based company is the franchisee of 10 other Wendy's stores in central and western Kansas.
Todd Eland, marketing director of Sunset Equities, confirmed the Hillsboro location will plan to open in four months.
"It's an extensive demolition and remodeling process," Eland said, "that will take 90 days. Another 30 days will be needed to do training and prepare to open."
A construction company from Denver, Colo., does the construction work for Wendy's and is doing the Hillsboro store in conjunction with a Wendy's in another town.
Recently, siding has been removed from the building which will be replaced with stucco, Eland said. It will be a few weeks before remodeling will begin on the inside.
"We're excited about coming to Hillsboro," Eland said. "Hillsboro has been easy to work with and the response from the community has been very supportive."
