It's that time of year

Well, it's the time of the year for giving and receiving. It is hard for me to do the giving part as I can't stroll through the stores like I used to. I sure do get a lot of the receiving.

I'm getting Fellowship Meals on wheels every noon. Then some very nice ladies from Home Health come every day to do things for me. They are so helpful and always cheerful, adding some spice to my life.

Of course, my family jumps right in and does more than they need to. Young friends bring me goodies and keep me in books. It's very nice to be on the receiving line.

My granddaughter Gayle even decorated the railings on my porch.

This is probably the first time in the last 70 years that I haven't put up a tree. We used to have the real thing, with the pine scent and all. Then I went for the artificial baby — nothing can replace that real tree and that real wood-burning fireplace. You see I put in a gas fireplace. It's so easy to light, but I hardly ever light it. Just not the same!

Another thing — will we ever have those deep snows again? When my son and his pals were little, they loved to make snow forts in the front yard and have some good snowball battles.

In the '50s we drove to Florence to pick up my daughter, who was coming home from college in Denver. The snow had been cleaned off the road and was stacked higher than the car on each side. Just like going through a tunnel. Cool!
