Jack Shipman
Jackie Franklin D. "Jack" Shipman, 74, of Florence, died Feb. 6, 2007.
Born Dec. 23, 1933, at Elbing, he as the seventh of 10 children born to Orris "Fuzz" and Audine (Arnold) Shipman.
He attended Florence High School, graduating in 1951. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War.
On June 22, 1959, he married Beverly Jean Cowley.
In 1961, the couple moved to Florence, where he worked various jobs. In 1965, he began a 31-year career at Beech Aircraft. He retired in 1996.
He volunteered on the Florence ambulance service and fire department and was a former member of Florence City Council.
He was a member of Florence Christian Church, the machinists union, and John McKay American Legion Post #308.
Survivors include his five children, Darla and Richard Wyss, Jackie Shipman, and Julie Crayton, all of Newton, Don "Bink" and Debbie Shipman of Florence, and Jerry and Tearie Shipman of Augusta.
Funeral services were held Saturday morning at Florence Christian Church.
Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence, with military services provided by John McKay American Legion Post #308.
Memorial funds have been established with the church or Hospice Care of Kansas.
