James Huna Jr.

James Huna Jr., 91, died Oct. 27, 2002, at Marion Manor.

He was born Sept. 6, 1911, at home near Pilsen, the son of James and Hedvika Ondrias Huna.

He grew up on the family farm and attended Wren School through the eighth grade. At an early age he learned how to work hard and operate a farm.

He was a farmer and raised cattle all his life. When he was younger he enjoyed hunting and trapping. He lived on the family home place until the early 1960s when they built a new home in Marion and moved to town.

Following the death of his parents, he and his sister, Pauline, continued to operate the farm. Pauline died May 11, 1991.

When his health began to fail, he moved to Marion Manor.

He lived a simple and conservative life. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and often talked about his early years growing up in the Pilsen community and of activities at St. John Nep. Church.

He is survived by a cousin Estelle McCarty and close friends Darvin and Sue Markley of Marion.

The rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Zeiner Funeral Home, led by George Waner.

Funeral Mass was at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Parish, Pilsen, with Father Steve Gronert officiating.

Casket bearers were Charles Svoboda, Edward Silhan Jr., Ed Davies, Joe Silhan, David Oborny, and Tim Svoboda.

Mary Griffith was the song leader and Charlene Svitak was organist.

Kathleen Oborny was lector.

Interment was at Marion Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Marion City Library.
