James Shields

James A. Shields, 82, of Wichita, died Jan. 11, 2005, at Via Christi Medical Center, St. Francis campus.

Born May 9, 1922, at Antelope, he was the son of Albert and Eleanor Shields.

On Nov. 27, 1941, he married Aileen Fenske at Lincolnville.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a staff sergeant in the field artillery, in charge of supplies. He also was one of the soldiers chosen to march on VE-Day through the Arch de Triumphe.

After the war he was a heavy duty truck sales manager for Price Auto Service for 22 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and a son-in-law.

Survivors include his wife, Aileen of Wichita; two daughters, Stephanie Gilmore and Mary Jaleen Tucker; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at Ascension Lutheran Church, Wichita, with Pastor Mike Bingenheimer and Pastor Scott Gortl officiating.

Burial was in Lincolnville Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established with Ascension Lutheran Church, Wichita.
